Why breeders test their eggs
Many Illinois towns restrict or ban roosters. Hatching a straight run and rehoming the males is stressful, time-consuming, and sometimes against local rules. Testing lets you incubate with confidence — keep the pullets, skip the surprises.
How it works
1. Get your eggs to us
Ship by mail, drop off locally, or arrange a pick-up. Fresh, unwashed hatching eggs work best.
2. We test at day 9
We target 9 days of incubation — roughly your egg’s current age plus about two days once it reaches us.
3. You get results
We send a clear female / male result per egg so you can decide what goes in the incubator.
Common questions
Does testing harm the egg?
We work from a small shell-and-membrane sample and handle viable eggs per our instructions. Follow our packing and timing guidance to keep eggs in the best possible shape.
When should I send my eggs?
As soon as you can. We target testing at 9 days of incubation, so we account for your egg’s age plus about two days in transit and handling. Fresher is better.
What does it cost?
$10 per egg. Order through our shop, or request a quote for larger batches.
